Biography[]
Anastacia Illyana Kanatova (Russian: Анастасия Ильяна Канатова), usually known as Lady Anastacia, was born and grew up in Russia at some unknown time.[1] She was among the best-connected and most influential vampires in North America, and the only vampire on the American west coast powerful enough to resist Lord Cornelius.[2][3]
She held great influence in the Shadows of Seattle and was attempting to increase this when she was contacted by Lydia.[1][4] This led to an uneasy alliance with Lydia, Baal, and the Brotherhood of Apollo aimed against Lorelei. The abduction of Lorelei and Alex was followed by the Battle of Blackthorne Manor.[5] Anastacia was killed during the battle.[6]
The sudden disappearance of Kanatova along with her court caused great concern among both the FBI Special Task Force and the North American vampire communities.[2][3]
Trivia[]
Anastacia’s name does not fully conform to Russian naming practices. Anastacia and Kanatova are the given name and surname per the practice, but Illyana should properly be a patronymic instead. If Anastacia’s father had been named Ilya, then her patronymic would be Ilyinichna.
It is likely that the name Illyana is borrowed from Illyana Rasputina of the X-Men.
Anastacia is of Greek origin, and means “she of the resurrection”, which is more than a little ironic as a name for a vampire.
