The supernatural or spiritual appearance of a person.
General[]
Every living being has an aura as a sensoric representation of their soul or life energy.[1][2] At least some undead also have auras, distinct from that of someone living.[3] It is most usually described using visual cues. Lorelei sometimes mention tasting auras,[4] and Rachel often uses smell as a description.[5]
It is possible to read a person’s general emotional state from their aura. Some known emotions read via auras include sexual or romantic interest,[6] sexual activity,[7] and fear.[8] It can also be used to determine if someone is meaning what they say.[9]
The look of a person’s aura largely depends on their personal qualities.[10][6] Every act a person does leaves a trace on their auras, and especially encounters with the supernatural can leave lasting traces.[11] Too many sins can overwhelm the aura and make it hard to read.[5]
Demons and angels also have auras, but these are generally too dark or bright to read, even for other demons and angels.[12][13] However, sexual acts can make it possible to read the aura with greater clarity.[7][4] It is unknown if there are other ways to increase the perceived clarity of the aura.
Most mortals are unable to perceive auras, but Practitioners, people with natural second sight,[14] angels, and demons can perceive them to varying degrees.
Being able to perceive auras not only makes it possible to better understand a person, but also increases the ability to manipulate or hurt the soul in various ways.[1][8]
