“Date Night” is a short story published in the collection Small Victories in 2020. Molly and Onyx sexperiment with Alex.

Warning[]

“Date Night” contains graphic sex, polyamory, sex in private, witchcraft, lingerie, feminism, lust, sexual promiscuity and the enthusiastic enabling thereof, innuendo, a casual disregard for traditional Western family values, and consensual sexual misconduct in places of worship.

Synopsis[]

Alex had planned on a night clubbing with Molly and Onyx as their first planned date, but when he arrived at their apartment he found they had changed their plans. Instead, Molly wanted to experiment with sex magic, much to Onyx’s embarrassment. It turned off the rain and saved the dog.

Continuity[]

The story is set a Friday in November. Per Elliott Kay’s timeline the story is set after Skin.[1] It also reads like their first planned date night, which would place it before “Trust”, which falls on a Thursday. That makes it likely that Skin is set a weekday the second week of November, “Date Night” is set the second Friday in November, and “Trust” is set the third Thursday in November.

Theories[]

It is possible that Molly’s greater control of the weather in Personal Demons partially stems from her experiences here.

It is heavily implied Molly raised greater amounts of magical power than she both expected and was used to while she made love with Alex and Onyx. It is unclear why. Some possible reasons:

  • Heterosexual sex is more efficient at raising magical power than homosexual sex. This would however go against the queer-positive themes of the story and series.
  • There are symbolic factors that can increase the amount of sexual-magical power, but there are no known such at play in this instance.
  • It is an effect of the removal of the Brotherhood of Apollo and Molly and Onyx growing in magical power, but this is unlikely to surprise Molly.
  • Threesomes are just better for magic. This would however probably have been revealed during Molly’s review of the literature.
  • Alex’s status as Baal’s killer, as Lorelei’s prey, or both, increases his ability to generate sexual-magical power.
  • The spiritual connection between Alex’s and Onyx’s souls acted as an enhancer that also benefited Molly.
