A long-time friend of Alex’s and Sierra’s boyfriend. He first appeared in Good Intentions.

Biography[]

Drew Jones was born October 30.[1] He met Alex in grade school, and they became close friends, despite Alex being a year younger and them having wildly diverging interests.[1] Both Drew’s mother Leticia and Alex’s mother Michelle had trouble with abuse or harassment from their exes, so the families assisted each other and became close.[2]

He learned to know Jason, Taylor, and Wade during this time as well. He became Taylor’s preferred source of “bro counseling”.

He started training kung fu early and also played football through high school.

Encountering the Shadows[]

Drew worked after high school graduation, unsure about direction and trying to save money for college.[3] He first encountered the Shadows with the pool hall fight against Robert Gorge.[4] After he acquired a quarter-stake in Ahmed Kovac’s pool hall via Lorelei he began working there, probably as assistant manager to Ahmed Kovac.[5][6]

He participated in the Battle of Blackthorne Manor where he assisted Taylor as she drove a car on fire into the manor. He also fought Harrow in hand to hand combat. This taught him not to be afraid of demons.[2]

The money from Gorge and the pool hall allowed him to move out from home and get his own apartment, off Aurora Avenue.[7][8]

He celebrated his 21st birthday with most of the Crew as well as Amber at the Emerald City Halloween Ball. Together with Wade he was taken captive and interrogated by the FBI Special Task Force during the party. Both proved very resistant to interrogation.[8] He participated in the Battle of Magnuson Park, fighting werewolves bare-handed.

At University of Washington[]

The repeated contacts with the Shadows proved distressing for Drew, not so much personally but for the dangers it could place his family and friends outside the Crew in. This came to a head when he and Lorelei were confronted by and defeated three demons sent by Belial on Christmas Eve.[2] After seeking advice from Molly and Onyx they assisted him with a love charm.[9]

In January he started college at University of Washington with financial assistance from Lorelei.[10][2]

Together with the rest of the Crew he was present at the aftermath of the Battle of the Casino, where he met Sierra, whom he knew vaguely from his kung fu club.[11] He encountered Lilith as he escorted Lorelei to Carkeek Park.[12] He played a major role in the Battle of Suite 1705, where he killed Evelyn in his attempt to save Onyx, and he in turn was saved by Sierra. Shortly afterwards he and Sierra started dating as they had discovered their mutual interest in each other and that both had connections with the Shadows.[11][13]

He went to Vancouver in March together with most of the Crew, where he, Sierra, and Wade infiltrated the Family party. They discovered the imprisoned angel Jon. He participated in the following Battle of the Silver Delta.

In late March Drew and Alex accompanied Leticia in buying an second-hand armorie from what turned out to be a mind-controlling cult. He demonstrated practical knowledge in countering magic during this time.[14]

Personal[]

Drew is black, bisexual, used to clubbing, and quite the ladies man.[15] He is highly loyal to his friends and feels responsible for those close to him. He is good-looking, well-built and usually sharply dressed. He dates easily, but has realized he is more for a committed relationship than dating or casual relations.[13] Lorelei has remarked that he came to understand casual romance early.[16]

Like many Black Americans he is of mixed heritage. Prior teasing and bullying has turned this into a sensitive topic for him.[17][18]

He prefers to stay up at nights.[3] He has taken a keen interest in the business and the management of the pool hall.[5][6]

He has a liking for “your mom” jokes.

Relationships[]

Drew’s mother is Leticia and his sister is Sandra, but he has no contact with his—probably white—father. He views Alex’s family as his own.[2] He is very close to his family, and is troubled by the need to keep quiet about his involvement in the Shadows.[14]

He is currently in a committed relationship with Sierra, a bodyguard for the Native circle.[19] He dated Sherri for a time after her party, but it ended partly because she wanted to focus on her studies, and possibly partly because he didn’t want to drag her into the Shadows and thus kept some distance.[5][2]

He has been very good at dating, and Lorelei has remarked that he came to understood casual romance early.

He is protective of all his friends, but seems especially protective of Taylor, as evidenced by his strong reaction against her driving a car on fire into the manor as part of the Battle of Blackthorne Manor, and his decision to accompany her in it.[20] He has also turned into Taylor’s preferred source of “bro counseling”.[21]

His guardian angel is Jon.[22] Since the Battle of Suite 1705, Rachel is sharing into that duty.[23]

Abilities[]

Drew has excellent social skills, a good sense of fashion, and is a good dancer and bartender. He is learning how to run a business by assisting Ahmed Kovac.[5]

Physically he is tall, strong, played football in high school, and has a black belt in kung fu, now complemented by sparring with Sierra.[24] He has learned not to be afraid of monsters, making him a dangerous opponent against most supernatural beings in an unarmed fight. He is however not comfortable with firearms, though he has developed some skill with them.[11][25]

Drew has developed some resistance to mind control and suggestions. His various encounters and fights with supernatural beings has begun to leave marks on his soul, apparent to people with supernatural perceptions.[14]
