Elevated rights
“Laws and ethics are what make an army or a navy something different than a mob of assholes with guns. We cannot let ourselves become that mob. That’s where your real responsibility lies.”
— Admiral Todd Branch, Rich Man’s War, chapter 6
Resident advisors—administrators, content moderators, and thread moderators—are always expected to act according to the § Guidelines, in particular ¶ Discuss and ¶ Collaborate. This applies both in general and while making use of their elevated rights. See also the Admin Code of Conduct for desired personal qualities.
Use of elevated rights
Resident advisors are to take the following into consideration when using their elevated rights:
- 0.
- Use of elevated rights must be for the betterment of the wiki or community as a whole.
- 1.
- Only consider actions on the Elliott Kay wiki with regard to blocks, warnings, or other sanctions.
- 2.
- Due to the need for trust in the resident advisors, elevated rights can be removed due to actions taken off-wiki.
- 3.
- The purpose of blocks and warnings is to protect the integrity of the wiki and its community.
- 4.
- It is more important to promote and encourage good faith and constructive behavior than it is to suppress or hide bad or troublesome behavior.
- 5.
- All warnings must be made directly to the warned user, or in direct association—like in the same discussion thread—with the offense. All warnings must specify the undesired behaviour.
- 6.
- Admins should not make threats about blocking or publically discuss potential blocks outside of formal warnings.
Becoming a resident advisor
To be considered for a resident advisor an editor should have provided regular constructive contributions to the site over an extended time, at a minimum one month. They should also be able to improve the quality of the site, e.g. through design skills or improving low-coverage areas. Quality of contributions is considered much more important than quantity. Contact a bureaucrat on their wall about this.
Having an emailconfirmed account is strongly encouraged.
Removal of elevated rights
Grounds for removal of elevated rights are:
- 1.
- Inactivity on the wiki for six or more months.
- 2.
- Any misuse of elevated rights or abuse of authority.
- 3.
- Any behavior covered under § Warning.
- 4.
- Any violation of the § Dorm rules.
- 5.
- Repeated failure to ¶ Discuss and ¶ Collaborate.
Please contact a bureaucrat about any concerns about the behavior of any resident advisor.
