A Practitioner and gunsmith. He first appeared in “Authenticity”.

Biography[]

Hector Kingston was of Jamaican origin and a Practitioner with a primary focus on crafting. He owned a gun shop where he crafted and sold magically enhanced weaponry, ammunition, and ritual tools.[1]

In Elizabeth’s will he was bequeathed the crafting tools and books from her workshop. The same evening he came to Molly’s and Onyx’s rescue when they were cornered by Victor Saxon after the reading of the will.[1]

He participated in the Practitioner meeting in January, and made effective resistance against the Light at the Battle of the Casino, teaming up with Molly and Onyx.[2] Afterwards he provided the Crew with weaponry and ammunition to help them against the Light.[3] These proved to be of critical value during the Battle of Suite 1705, effective against both practitioners and demons.[4]

Hector was tall, handsome, black, and spoke with a Jamaican accent.[1] He usually wore a trench coat. His style had little respect for fashion or formality, but he wore it well. He was fiercely independent and more comfortable with guns and physical violence than most Practitioners. Alex judged him to be a dangerous man.[5] Despite this, he was careful about who he sold to, running his own kind of background checks or personal evaluations.[6]

Relationships[]

Hector had good relations with Molly and Onyx, though Onyx was wary of him.[7] He himself was deeply suspicious of Lorelei, but came to respect the capabilities of the “mundane” members of the Crew.[8]

Despite his independence, he had some associates and friends helping run the gun shop. He appeared to be protective of them.[3] He appeared to well-known and well-respected in the Seattle Practitioner community.

Abilities[]

Hector was a superb craftsman and maker of magically enhanced weaponry. He also was perceptive, combined with experience and ability to gauge people.[1][3] He showed some skill with perception magic.[9]

He mainly used shotguns and revolvers, and seemed to have a preference for simple and direct solutions, like using rock salt in a shotgun to take down wards.[1][10]

His practice had limitations in how it was used for money.[1]

Theories[]

Hector was capable of enchanting modern weaponry, but still preferred to use revolvers and manually operated shotguns. Some possible reasons for this might be:

  • A preference for large calibers with plenty of boom.
  • Greater ammunition flexibility in terms of material and charge, like rock salt in a shotgun.[1]
  • Weapons with more manual operation were easier to enchant.
  • Large caliber ammunition was easier to enchant.

The later points are partly supported by that Sunday used a pair of old-fashioned large-caliber revolvers with bullets made of iron and silver.[11][12]
