Holy ground is a location on the mortal plane that is infused with faith associated with Heaven.
General[]
Holy ground can be found in many places over the world, and can be associated with different faiths. However, it must be sincerely held and practiced by attendants and caretakers, and fit within the values of Heaven.[1]
It is also possible for other objects than places to become infused with power. The one known such example is an Orthodox cross that belonged to Stelia’s family.[2]
Objects infused with faith can continue to hold that for a long time. Stelia’s cross was away from the family for at least twenty years—enough that Stelia could grow up and have a daughter herself—and in the hands of various art thieves, but it still kept its power.[2]
Holy ground and supernatural beings[]
In most Dominions, angels hold their councils and nightly gatherings on holy ground.[3]
It is inhospitable to demons with an effect depending both on the demon’s connection to the mortal realm and the strength of the faith.[1] Some demons, like Lorelei and Lydia can act on holy ground or touch holy objects, though it is acutely painful.[4][2] Demons wearing mortal skins will see it start to boil and disintegrate. It is unknown how holy ground will affect demons without mortal skins. Demons killed on holy ground are destroyed and will not be reborn in Hell.[5]
The effects of holy ground on other supernatural beings is unknown.
