A succubus who served Baal and with a rivalry towards Lorelei. She first appeared in Good Intentions.

Biography[]

Lydia had been a succubus for a very long time. Her first known appearance was during the First Crusade, where she attached herself to a series of knights and nobles. She took part in the Siege of Antioch in 1098, where she murdered John after he interfered with the “judgement” against three young women.[1] Later that evening, she met Lorelei, mocking her and stating how she soon would be as famous as Lorelei.[2]

Lydia arrived in Seattle in August together with her prey Carlos Medina, and she joined forces with Harrow, another one of Baal’s servants.[3] After encountering Lorelei and Alex in September, she set out to reclaim Lorelei for Baal.[4] She recruited the help of both Anastacia’s court and the Brotherhood of Apollo, but also played them against each other.[1][5] As a final element she summoned Baal to Earth. Alex and Lorelei were both kidnapped and brought to Blackthorne manor.[6]

She tortured Alex, and through him Lorelei, using sexual abuse and by giving him an overdose of the waters of Lethe.[7] During the Battle of Blackthorne manor she was captured by Jason with the help of a stun gun.[8] In punishment for her actions against Alex, she was banished to Hell for the remainder of this century by Vincent.[9]

She was taken by Sammael while in Hell, and her information led him to Seattle.[10] After Lorelei claimed Baal’s domain she sent scouts to locate Lydia, and she was brought to Azazel’s fortress by Lorelei’s forces. She was forgotten and managed to escape in the chaos during the fight between Belial and Lilith.[11]

Personal[]

Lydia delighted in spreading discord and violence in her wake. One way she accomplished this was by taking multiple lovers apart from her prey and then playing them off against another.[1] The way she played up the rivalry between the Brotherhood and Anastacia’s vampires was another example.[5] She seemed more interested in seeking and obtaining mundane power and status than other known succubae, and sought new prey within the social circles of her old prey on a regular basis.[2][1]

Lorelei judged her as ruthless and capable, even by the standards of Hell.[9] Like all succubae, she could change her appearance. She habitually appeared as a luscious beauty with striking green eyes and golden blonde hair.[4][1]

Relations[]

Lydia held the title of most favored of Baal, and seemed to be genuinely fond of Baal and enjoying her time with him.[2][1][8]

She was married to Carlos Medina until she sacrificed him in order to summon Baal. During her time with him she took several of his bodyguards, his father, and a couple of his rivals as lovers.[1]

Abilities[]

Lydia had all the abilities of an experienced succubus, including mind control, enhanced sex appeal, and supernatural strength, durability, and speed. She used her powers of mind control and suggestion quite freely, and thought of them as her most potent abilities.[5]

Unlike most other demons—but like Lorelei—she could move and act on holy ground without her body breaking down.[9][12] This implies her body is her original one and not a mortal skin.

Theories[]

The meaning of the title “most favored of Baal” is unclear. Given that Harrow was the “first warrior of Baal”, it might be that Baal was fond of bestowing such titles, or it might imply something more. It is also possible that Lorelei meant the title sarcastically given the specifics of the encounter.
