“But your film sounds awesome and now you’ve got secret funding. That’s a good start for a heist, right?” — Spoilers for Grand Theft Sorcery follow.

A supernatural being, connected with the stars and the night. She first appeared in Grand Theft Sorcery.

Biography[]

Mitu was active and had followers on the mortal plane and Earth before the angels gained dominance, and likely also before the creation of Hell. She served as a guide and protector for several nomadic tribes, teaching them about the night. She hid rather than join either Heaven or Hell when the angels gained dominance.[1][2] In the end, a single carved idol held her tied to Earth. The idol was held by Cornelius until his death at the Battle of the Bus Tunnel, after which it was claimed by Anatole. Neither were aware of the idol’s significance.[1]

When Evan Murphy was trapped and beaten in the storeroom where Mitu was kept, she saw a chance for them to escape together. After they had fought free of the house, Evan released her to roam the stars.[1]

Relations[]

In the above Evan is described as Mitu’s client, but this is not necessarily the best expression of their relationship. Mitu likely provides ready access to supernatural powers to Evan, but there has been no indication that she will ask anything from him in return.[1]

Abilities[]

Even trapped, Mitu had powers of soul sensing, telepathy, and healing, much like an angel. Released from her box, she could empower Evan with several supernatural powers.[1] When distant, she could communicate with Evan, sense the souls and character of the people close to him, and track the movements of people in the area around him.[2]

Theories[]

It is unknown which type of being that Mitu is or was, but she served as the patron and protector of several nomadic tribes.[2] She herself said that she had “much in common with the angels”.[1] The angels appear to know of her name, role, and purpose, but have not been aware of or thought of her for a long time.[3] It is also possible that Mitu had some form of connection with the jinn.[4]

The release of Mitu caused “something big” to happen to the night sky over Los Angeles. For people with a supernatural connection the stars are much more visible than they used to be.[5] The effect is localized, with a radius of close to 400 miles (600 kilometers)—from Los Angeles to Phoenix.[6] This effect is centered on Evan, but normally not in such a way that his location can be discerned. It is also possible that there is a center over Griffith observatory, as Mitu was released there.[7]
