A young half-orc warrior with a talent for leadership and business sense. He first appeared in Run Like Hell.
Biography[]
Scars was born as Scott and the only child of the two legendary adventurers Kyerva the Slayer and Mitchell Brightsong, nineteen or twenty years ago. He grew up on the tavern the two bought after retiring from adventuring.[1][2] Despite growing up in human culture, he also learned about and became familiar with orc culture and customs.[3] Since he is not associated with any clan or place, he goes by No-clan.[2]
After King Dostin’s anti-Goblin edict the tavern was burnt down in a riot and his parents were killed. After a year on the run he took hire with Olen Zuck and spent three years there. Since he was literate and had some education, Yargol quietly assigned him to the library, where he also learned to know War Cloud.[2]
He survived the raid against the dungeon thanks to the help of Yargol, and then was instrumental in finding and recruiting some of the other survivors into the Crew.
Abilities[]
Scars is a capable fighter, primarily with sword and shield, but he can also use a crossbow. He has a talent for tactics and leadership, a good understanding of economics,[4] and several skills associated with a tavern. This includes how to avoid and cause food poisoning and spike drinks.[5] From the stories he was told by his parents he also has lots of practical knowledge of various groups, creatures, and dangers that adventurers tend to encounter—including fellow adventurers.[6][7]
Possessions[]
Scars owns a dwarven crossbow that holds several ready bolts and can be readied for another shot with a single pull of a crank.[8] His main weapons are however sword and shield.
Trivia[]
Scars’s armor on the covers of Run Like Hell and Nowhere to Run was likely inspired by the armor that Chris Brathwaite wore as he modeled as Scars.[9][10]
