A bodyguard for the Native circle and Drew’s girlfriend. She first appeared in Personal Demons.
Biography[]
Sierra grew up on a reservation, probably the Tulalip Indian Reservation or equivalent. At age 15 she was recruited as muscle to the Native circle, doing on-the-job training as a lookout and bodyguard for six years.[1][2] She worked closely with Kate Oakwood.[3] She had also practiced at the same kung fu studio as Drew, though they hadn’t interacted much, despite mutual interest.[4]
Encountering the Crew[]
She met Alex at the Practitioner meeting at the casino, which then turned into the Battle of the Casino as the Light launched their assault.[3] It was her first encounter with demons and large-scale fights, but she adapted quickly to fighting demons by observing Alex’s ways of fighting.[1][5] In the aftermath of the battle, she and Drew were surprised to see each other.[6]
“Tell me about it. Who the hell can relate to all this?”
“I dunno. Maybe someone tough and down to earth who’s got weirdo friends they gotta back up through some crazy shit sometimes? Oh and hot, too,” he added as his grin returned. “Helps if they’re hot.”
— Sierra and Drew, Personal Demons, chapter 25
With the threat from the Light still unresolved, Sierra was sent to keep watch over Hector’s gun store. She met and talked with Drew after he, Onyx, and Wade exited the store.[1] She saw that they were tailed by Bill as they drove off, and set out to tail Bill herself to Suite 1705.
She witnessed parts of the following Battle of Suite 1705, and rescued Drew when he faced Bill and Loretta, killing them both.[7] She assisted in the following cleanup after the battle, where she also met Amber and learned about the Special Task Force. She and Drew decided to start dating afterwards, having discovered their mutual attraction and involvement in the Shadows.[8][2]
Relation with Drew[]
Sierra’s dating with Drew quickly turned serious, but it also involved plenty of training in working as muscle for Practitioners.[9][10]
She joined the Crew when they went to Vancouver in March, partially in order to see and assess Lorelei in action. She probably did this without informing Kate or the rest of the Native circle.[11] In Vancouver she participated in both the Family party and the following Battle of the Silver Delta.
She assisted Lorelei and Alex in their heist against Ben Palmer to recover stolen artwork, first with advice and then by posing with them as moving crew.[12]
She is currently negotiating her closer association with Drew and the Crew with her loyalties to Kate and the Native circle. The main complicating factor is the distrust and fear other Practitioners have of Lorelei.[11]
Personal[]
Sierra is a big believer in constant preparation.[10] She appears to be more ready to do petty crimes like theft than the Crew.[11] On the flip side, she has had trouble adjusting to their more freewheeling improvisation.[13][14] She is very intense and seems habituated to constant vigilance.
She appears to be unused to but approving of the way the Crew approaches the use of magic, with its large focus on consent and avoiding its use when it is not clearly warranted.[15][12]
Relations[]
Sierra groaned and made for the refrigerator. “Drew, you’d better not fuck anyone else in this crew. All the constant boundary shit is too weird.”
— Sierra, Past Due, chapter 20
Sierra is in a committed relationship with Drew, and seems intent on keeping it monogamous.[16] She appears to like both hanging out with the Crew and telling them what to do.[17][12]
Her guardian angel is unknown.
Abilities[]
Sierra is a well-trained bodyguard and highly observant. She is highly competent in firearms, bladed, and unarmed combat, observation, stealth, evasive driving, surveillance, and infiltration. She also knows some theory of magic, probably through exposure.
Possessions[]
Sierra is well equipped with pistols and knives. She has a pair of wakizashi taken from Jasper, which might be enchanted.[14]
Theories[]
According to Evelyn, no person in the room had a guardian angel just before the start of the Battle of the Casino.[18] This should include Sierra, but she is no Practitioner and has no known actions that would remove Heaven’s light. It is currently unknown why that is so.
