A long-time friend to Alex Carlisle and a student at University of Washington. She first appeared in Good Intentions.
Biography[]
Taylor went to the same high school as Alex and his friends, where she also dated Gabriel.[1][2] She viewed Alex as a close friend, but was uninterested in him romantically.[3] She was also close friends with Drew Jones.[4] She started at University of Washington immediately after graduation with some scholarships, but also worked part-time in a lingerie shop.[2][5]
Encountering the Shadows[]
In September Taylor met Alex again in her store during the Pacific Place events. This led to her decision to confront Gabriel over his many infidelities and to the idea of getting rid of her disliked store manager Audrey. She photographed Alex and Audrey mid-coitus in the dressing room and then initiated her own tryst with Alex. The tryst was aborted when they were kidnapped by criminals bent on blackmailing Lorelei. She and Alex were rescued by Rachel and she was introduced to Lorelei.[2] She broke up with Gabriel the next day.[6]
She met Lorelei again at Sherri’s party, who both started to seduce her and introduced her to the Shadows. In particular Lorelei told her about vampires and received Taylor’s help in luring Alistair Pennington to be alone with Lorelei so he could be killed by her. Meanwhile Gabriel crashed the party, having taken the breakup badly. After the party ended she began an extended tryst with both Alex and Lorelei.[7]
She was with Drew when Jason Cohen discovered Alex’s abduction and joined the rescue attempt of him. She participated in the Battle of Blackthorne Manor where she drove a car filled with incendiaries into the manor.[8] Sometime in October, she started to date Brendan.[9] Despite her expressed desire that it not be serious, Brendan involved her heavily in his social life and his personal plans. This meant she did not go to the Emerald City Halloween Ball or become embroiled in the Special Task Force investigation of the Crew in October. She learned of the events afterwards from Drew, Jason, and Wade.[10]
Return to the Shadows[]
Taylor didn’t look away from the rippling water of the lake in the tower windows. She wanted to see the far shore, and the mountains beyond it. She wanted to see her friends through this whole mess, too.
She wanted more than Brendan.
Personal Demons, chapter 14
In January Taylor reconnected with Alex as he transferred to the UW. She joined the Crew in accompanying Molly and Onyx to the Seattle Practitioner meeting.[10][11] She assisted in the aftermath of the Battle of the Casino, which erupted during the meeting.[12] Still wanting to assist her friends, she was introduced to magic by Molly Murray and came to the conclusion that what she wanted out of life didn’t fit with Brendan’s goals, ending the relationship.[13] She played an important part during the following Battle of Suite 1705.[14]
Seemingly intent on preparing for and getting to know the Shadows better, she began to train shooting with Wade and unarmed combat with Drew. She expressed a romantic interest in Wade, something which he was deeply uncomfortable with and led to his coming out as asexual.[15] She also started to study some theory of magic, coached by Molly and Onyx.[16]
She took part in the trip to Vancouver in March, and participated in the aftermath of the Family party and in the Battle of the Silver Delta. Afterwards she was offered a job by Zafirah as her assistant. Taylor has chosen to first finish her current year at UW, but it seems likely she will take Zafirah’s offer, at least for a limited time.[17][18] It is unknown if she is still working part-time in the lingerie store.
Personal[]
“You are at home in this world, yet you can navigate the other. You are bright, educated, charming, and brave. While you are not a Practitioner, you show enough talent to hold down a spell and learn more. You have stood against monsters and demons and you have known when to make a friend rather than an enemy. You have the fortitude and the sort of open mind required to navigate the most unusual circumstances.”
— Zafirah, Past Due, chapter 27
Taylor is a popular girl, but chafes against the constraints of such a life.[10][13] Zafirah described her as “bright, educated, charming, and brave”. She is still undecided on any career or possible major in college, but has realized she will not be satisfied with an ordinary job or home life. She has shown the most interest in magic and the Shadows among the mundane members of the Crew.[19][16]
She is bisexual, but outside Lorelei she has only been known to have dated men. She is a very good-looking brunette, especially after Lorelei enhanced her body and looks.[7]
Relationships[]
Taylor’s relation with her parents is unclear, but she seems to hold some distance from them.[20]
In January she broke up with Brendan after a short period dating.[13] In high school and during her first year at UW she dated Gabriel. The relationship ended poorly.[7]
She has had trysts with both Lorelei and Alex, but is not interested in furthering that relation, partly because she is not interested in polyamory.[16] She did express an interest in being sexually wild and free for a while after her tryst in September with Alex and Lorelei, but it is unclear if she managed that before she started to date Brendan.[3]
She was interested in dating Wade, which led to him coming out as asexual and aromantic.[15] She is a long-time friend of Drew and Jocelyn.[4][7] She also knows Trish, and seems to have maintained a strong circle of friends through and after high school.
Most male members of the Crew are rather protective of her, probably a combination of natural protectiveness of a friend and ingrained habits of chivalry.[8][21]
Her guardian angel is Julia.[7] After the Battle of Suite 1705, Rachel fills in as her guardian as well.
Abilities[]
Taylor was a cheerleader through high school, giving her acrobatic skills, and is a good driver.[8] She can think and act clearly under pressure and in stressful situations. She is also good at finding and collating information, socially adept, and makes friends easily. She has developed into a good and quick shot with a pistol.[22]
She has learned some theory of magic and can assist other Practitioners with their spellwork or maintain a spell cast by another Practitioner.[13][16]
Theories[]
Alex believed that Taylor seemed much more interested in Lorelei than in himself.[23] However, all Taylor’s other known romantic relations or interests have been with men. Some possible explanations are:
- Residue from Lorelei’s enchantments of trust and bodily changes.[7]
- Taylor valued Alex more as a friend than as a sexual partner.
- An initial expression of Taylor’s interest in the Shadows.
- Sexual curiosity in women.
- Lorelei is just that hot.
- Alex misjudged Taylor’s interest in him.
Trivia[]
Taylor’s full name was given as “Taylor Coulson” in Angels, Demons, and Alex, which was published on and later removed from Literotica.
