General[]

The werewolf is a shape-changing creature associated with Hell, being able to switch from human form to the shape of a giant wolf. Werewolves were originally bred to hunt angels, but proved too hard to manage. Nowadays, they largely live and roam free in packs.⁠[1] An individual werewolf often see the werewolf who turned them as their parent.⁠[2] Werewolves probably have a normal sex drive, but are probably infertile due to their connection with Hell.⁠[3]

Werewolves do not get along with vampires and are often called "mongrels" as a derogatory term.⁠[4]

Unlike vampires they are still alive, and unlike both vampires and demons they are not reduced to ashes when killed. New werewolves are created by biting a person. It is however not possible to turn a human with a guardian angel into a werewolf, instead the person will die.⁠[5]

Werewolves have been active at least since the 13th or 14th centuries BCE, based on contacts with the Family.⁠[6]

Abilities[]

Werewolves can shift at will between their human form and a supernaturally large wolf form. The transition can be very quick and kept partial, e.g. to get clawed hands that are still usable as hands.⁠[2] They heal very fast, have a powerful sense of smell, and possess supernatural strength and resilience, especially in wolf form.⁠[4] They seem to keep most of their mental faculties in wolf form, though their ability to talk is constrained by physiology. It is unknown if they shift involuntarily under a full moon.

Their claws are strong and sharp enough to dig into metal.⁠[4] The connection with Hell allows their claws and teeth to interact with and hurt angels and demons, whether or not they are immaterial.⁠[7]

Werewolves are vulnerable to silver and to angelic fire or light.⁠[8] Very severe physical trauma can still hurt or kill them.⁠[2][1] Tools like pepper spray is very effective in countering their enhanced senses.⁠[9][2]

Packs[]

Werewolves live both in packs and alone.⁠[5] The packs are hierarchically organized, often located in rural areas. The Special Task Force knows of several packs throughout southwestern USA. Caleb’s pack had their territory somewhere outside Seattle, probably to the east of the city. Jackson Tyler’s pack was present at the Family party in Vancouver, and probably lived in that area. Its known members are Jackson Tyler and Hugo.⁠[10][11]

Los Angeles held at least three packs. One is led by Sergio, and is probably in the western part of the city. Jackson’s pack is in San Bernardino. The last is in Riverside.⁠[12]

Werewolves have testing and initiation rituals in order to induct new members. The purpose and origin of these are unknown to the werewolves, but they serve to drive away any guardian angel from the inductee.⁠[5]

Cannibalism and eating the heart of other werewolves have been documented in at least two werewolf packs. After Diana had defeated Caleb and took over his pack, she tore out and ate his heart.⁠[2] Crank was derided by his pack for allowing Anatole to claim his sire Dietrich’s body.⁠[12]

Some werewolves live unaffiliated with a pack. Filip and Evgeni served as engineers aboard the Silver Delta, the yacht owned by the Family.⁠[13] It also appears that werewolves are relatively free to act outside their pack, like in the case of Dietrich who hired himself out as a mercenary.⁠[14]
